AUDITIONS At the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SDSCPA), every student joins our arts community through audition and choice—because we believe passion and commitment to the arts are at the heart of learning. Our auditions are the first step in a journey of growth, designed to discover each student’s potential and passion for the arts in a pre-conservatory program where the arts are as vital as academics. In this way, auditions set the tone for the dedication, creativity, and professionalism students will carry throughout their artistic journey. Auditions are an opportunity for us to get to know you as an artist while helping you understand the rigor, preparation, and artistic expectations that make SDSCPA a pre-conservatory arts program. We learn more about you, your commitment and genuine interest in the arts, your ability to use your imagination to create/share works, the way you take creative risks, and how you learn and discover through artistic exploration even if you have had no formal arts training. Regardless of where you are starting from, if you love the arts, you are in the right place. The auditions are just a way to show that. Explore our six arts majors which include Creative Writing , Dance , Design & Production , Music , Theatre , and Visual & Media Arts . Choose the arts major that best reflects your interests, then review the audition requirements for your grade level. Your audition introduces the preparation, commitment, creativity, and artistic expectations that shape the SDSCPA experience. 2 COMPLETE SCHOOL CHOICE APPLICATION For all families, both an audition and a School Choice application are required. Families must complete the School Choice application prior to applying and auditioning for SDSCPA. In addition, i f you live outside SDUSD boundaries, gather the required documents for Out of District families , and prepare to submit them with your application. 3 SUBMIT AUDITION APPLICATION Choose an audition option and submit the SDSCPA audition application: For incoming 6th-12th graders wanting to submit an online audition, click here . (This option will become available when the SDUSD School Choice Window opens in the end of September.) Review the audition requirements for your selected arts major and audition option (in-person or online) and submit all the required information and materials in the application. The Choice program is the district process for requesting a school outside a student's neighborhood attendance boundary, including magnet schools such as SDSCPA. When completing the application: Submit one Choice application per student. For twins or multiples, include them in the same application. Select San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SDSCPA) and rank schools in your true order of preference (first choice listed first). Review carefully before submitting and save your confirmation for your records. For questions about the application, lottery, placement, or enrollment, visit the SDUSD Choice Enrollment page . OUT OF DISTRICT FAMILIES OOD families must complete an Interdistrict Attendance Permit (IAP) and email the completed IAP to iap@sandi.net OOD families are required to submit the following form in their application: Student transcripts (report card for middle school students) Attendance report Behavior report IEP or 504 Plan (if applicable) Your current school counselor or school office can assist you in obtaining these records Acceptance letters cannot be issued until all required documentation has been received and reviewed OOD FAMILIES KEY DATES 10.5.26 School Choice opens. TBD Enrollment window OPENS 10.5.26 Online audition window. TBD Acceptance window AUDITION FAQs My student has a disability. Do they still need to audition? Yes. An IEP or 504 does not prohibit students from auditioning for SDSCPA. Acceptance is based on determining appropriate support for students with disabilities. The audition process is an objective evaluation of a student’s passion and desire to engage in the arts scope and sequence of courses through graduation. When will I be notified if my student is accepted? Decision letters for acceptance will be sent starting early November. If the student is accepted to SDSCPA, you will receive instructions for completing the online enrollment process, including any required forms, documentation, and deadlines. Is transportation provided? Families are eligible for transportation if students reside outside a radius of 5.1 miles from SDSCPA and live within the district boundaries;the district determines who is scheduled for transportation, not SDSCPA. Families outside of the district are not eligible for transportation. Students that reside outside of the district are required to complete an Interdistrict Attendance Permit (IAP) and submit it for approval to both their home district and SDUSD (iap@sandi.net). A fully-approved IAP form must be on file within the first 10 days of the school year. We do have a parent app that helps coordinate rides and carpools between SDSCPA families. Why did I receive a waitlist notification from SDUSD even though I already enrolled? SDUSD maintains a lottery system for most schools. However, CPMA and SDSCPA are arts-focused public magnet schools, not neighborhood schools, and follow a different process. The waitlist email typically sent in March applies to students who “choiced” into a school outside their neighborhood. Please disregard this email, as it does not apply to arts-focused magnet schools. Can I audition for more than one arts discipline? We ask that students select 1 artistic area of study. Acceptances will be sent based on the initial audition. SDSCPA does offer a change of major process after students are accepted. Please see Mr. Robles for further questions.

COUNSELING The Counseling Department at SDSCPA supports each student’s academic, artistic, and personal journey. Our counselors provide personalized guidance in academic planning, college readiness, and career exploration, while fostering emotional well-being and resilience. Through workshops, individual counseling, and collaboration with faculty and families, we help students navigate challenges and celebrate their creativity.
